Managing committee yet to decide when General Election would take place. It is an opportunity for the voluntary and community to secure commitments from the organisation to the future policies that would benefit the voluntary and community . This is also time for reflecting on the impact of the prevailing policies and practices to assess the current situation.
The Essex Bangladeshi Welfare Association is popularly known as "EBWA" has continued to pursue some of its earlier proposals, such as the need for race equality impact analysis at ministerial level across the government where junior ministers in each of the government department responsible for race equality analysis. Eventually reporting to a Minister of Cabinet rank with parliamentary scrutiny.
EBWA has embarked upon a series of meetings with senior politicians from the political parties with a view to put forward proposals which would address to improve the social, economical and political life of the vulnerable, the poor, socially excluded and the minority ethnic community.
Key Recommendations from these Conferences were:
To raise awareness through conferences/seminars and workshops on the concept of izzat and sharam in order to have a better understanding of the impact, behaviour and management of depression within the Bengali Culture. .Religious leaders and community members need to be educated to have a better understanding o f the various cultural impacts on an individual's . To create a positive image and project the strengths of the Bangladeshi community as a whole . To involve the media to play a positive role in projecting and highlighting the pressing issues among the Bangladeshi common .
To build partnership with the statutory sector by encouraging them to take the expertise's from the voluntary sector by linking service users voices through community based organisations, adapting good practices, developing successful modules in the consultations at all levels, i. e. by taking a holistic approach .To emphasis the need for the long term sustainability of resources for the continued support for the community and service users.
